Unboxing Apple TechWoven Green Case

Apple has replaced last year’s premium FineWoven case with a new TechWoven case for the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. It retails for $59, and Apple claims it’s more resistant to scratches and stains compared to FineWoven.

The front of the box shows the green TechWoven case with its large camera cutout. On the back, you’ll find product details in multiple languages and a small illustration showing the strap attachment points.

When I first held the case, I noticed the texture immediately. TechWoven doesn’t feel as smooth as FineWoven. The material is rougher — almost like the fabric used on water-resistant backpacks. Scratching it with a fingernail produces the same familiar rustling sound, but it doesn’t leave marks like FineWoven often did

One thing I really like about this case is the anodized aluminum buttons. Apple continues to color-match them perfectly with the case, and the button feedback is excellent — it feels just like pressing the buttons on the iPhone itself.

The Camera Control area has a sapphire layer to interact properly with the phone. Touch response is great, but the aesthetics fall short. Glue marks and small gaps around the button let dust settle in easily.

Along the bottom, Apple cut a large opening for the USB-C port. It fits both the included cable and thicker third-party cables. The speaker holes are clean and precisely cut. Apple also added two attachment points for the new crossbody strap, though the finishing around them looks messy, similar to the Camera Control area.

The edges of the TechWoven case feel soft and grippy thanks to a TPU coating. I still worry about durability, considering FineWoven’s issues last year.

A large camera cutout rises slightly above the lenses and protects them when you place the phone on flat surfaces.

Once installed, the case leaves a bit of the iPhone’s frame exposed around the front, which means it doesn’t hug the screen tightly. For some screen protectors, this might matter — but in my case, I’m using a tempered glass protector on my iPhone 17 Pro Max and the case doesn’t interfere with it at all.

Overall, I’m quite happy with the TechWoven case. It feels solid, comfortable to hold, and well-made, even though the finishing around the Camera Control and strap connectors could definitely be better. Compared to the Apple Clear Case, I think I prefer TechWoven just a little more — mostly because the material feels fresh and different.
